Winchester 97 Barrel Tool

This wrench is designed to remove the barrel adjustment ring & extensions off the Winchester model 1897/97 pump shotguns.

As you can see in the picture there is a milled out recess on the LH side that accommodates the barrel adjustment ring.   The center plug is machined to match the magazine tube  & the RH plug is made in 2 different sizes to fit either the 12 or 16ga firearms.   These plugs are secured by 5/16" Allen head set screws.  The base is designed to fit Brownells action wrench handle.

Even with this tool that is designed for this specific purpose, care must be exercised to not get overly rambunctious & bend or break the barrel extension.  It is not that strong at the juncture of the action slide arm & the magazine tube area.

If it does not want to readily unscrew, soak what threads you can see with a penetrating oil & let it soak for a few days.   If that does not help, then apply a little heat to the extension only & immediately try to remove it again.
